Bay Area Singer Discusses IBS Struggle & Her Cat Being Her Stress Relief
Hi! My name is Soukhya (pronounced Soak-yah), I’m a singer from the Bay Area and graduated from Purdue University in May 2020!

Singing and my cat (Sky) has helped me relieve stress and keep my body and mental health in good shape! About 2 years ago I was diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowl Syndrome) due to stress and have struggled with it since by gaining and losing weight, not being able to eat, and sensitivity towards certain foods. Soon after, I adopted my little girl Sky and I’ve finally been able to manage my stress and IBS struggles both through the relief of music, my cat, and surrounding myself with warm, loving, and supportive people.
I believe it’s important to listen to your gut and follow your intuition. Your gut tells you what’s right or wrong in so many ways. Following through will bring you in the direction the universe wants to take you. In the end I’ve realized everything happens the way it’s supposed to and stressing over something that you cannot change will cause more issues for yourself and if you can change the outcome of something.. then do it.

I loved when Brittany reached out to me regarding body health and positivity because it made me think more about the struggles I’ve been through to get where I’m at right now in terms of my mental and physical state. It’s so important to take the time to think about what you love about yourself and not have to receive validation from others. Loving yourself is the first step to many many opportunities. Hope you are all taking care of yourself during times like this.

Lots of love,
Soukhya
